Alienware Unleashes Compact Alien Invader

Alienware-x51

Alienware has always been about processing power and LED lights (though Dell has somewhat diluted the brand to something less hardcore).

And so it comes as a surprise when the almighty Alien overlord decides to introduce a new gaming desktop that embraces  the compact-PC form factor.

With looks that have more in common with an Xbox 360 than their massive Aurora desktop, the X51 measures at 13.5 inches by 12.52-inches by 3.74-inches. It will also house a slot-loading disc drive, which was probably chosen to not add more bulk to the X51.

The basic model’s interior includes a dual-core 3.3GHz Intel Core i3-2120, 4GBs of RAM, 1TB hard drive and NVIDIA’s GeForce GT545, though Alienware has mentioned that the chassis will be completely upgradeable, and that swapping out all the interior for something more powerful will be easier than ever. This basic model will set you back US$699, so it’s up to you to decide if that’s worth the flashy LED lights and alien accents.
