I have to confess: Microsoft’s Avatars on the Xbox 360 got the half-realism/half-cartoony look pat down, and beats down the PSN avatars(uncanny valley horridness) and Wii’s Miis (appealing yet vague-like Bobbleheads) in terms of overall appeal and customizability. Which is why that it’s cool that Microsoft added in an Avatar Marketplace. Basically, it’s just stuff you buy for your Avatars will Microsoft Space Bucks (or MS Points for those who don’t recognize the running joke at GAX).
In addition to getting cool-looking clothes and game-branded outfits for your Avatars, they also get props to play around with and awardables, extra items unlocked from playing copious amounts of a certain title. Back at E3, the Warthog from the Halo series is one such example, as we saw a Microsoft representative’s Avatar driving in one.
Three years ago, this would have been a level of Horse Armor-absurdity, but with people spending money on DLC like no tomorrow; from songs to extra levels in huge-ass games, it’s not so far-fetched that Avatars will be taking that route. Besides, how can you say no to this?

You are correct: there’s Monkey Island-related props and clothes for your Avatar worth about the equivalent of S$2 apiece. Other games like Fable 2 and Halo 3 also have their own branded goods (with varying prices), with more game stuff coming soon when the update beta’s prim and proper. There’s also a Games On Demand feature where old Xbox 360 titles can now be stored under your 360 account and HDD, but that all pales in comparison to the above pictures. My only gripe with the Avatar Marketplace is that somewhere along the line, region-specific items and restrictions might appear. If it worked for Sony’s LittleBigPlanet, what makes you think it wouldn’t work on the Xbox Live dashboard?
The update for the Avatar Marketplace and Games On Demand will be out soon next Monday on the 27th for you 360 gamers. Just make sure you sign up here. In the meantime, there’s a new offer on 360s that just started recently. For the price of about $500 Singaporean smackeroos, you get an Xbox 360 with a 60GB hard drive and a copy of Halo 3. Yes, Bungie’s still supporting Halo 3 with maps and stuff, so it’s not like Halo 3 is going out of style anytime soon.

ps 3 has the lowest sales rate right now. and most of the forums in gameaxis is like small child. dun even know if they are adult or not that why no people wanna come in and talk back to them, most of them dun even bother care.
