There should be some counter-balance to the Infinity Ward fallout, so here it is: Activision has signed a 10-year publishing agreement with Bungie to bring its “next big action game universe to market.” According to a recent press release we got in the mailbox, the huge-as-heck publishing house will have the rights to publish the new intellectual property “on multiple platforms and devices.” The press release was vague; no word on whether this will extend outside Xbox 360. Activision’s COO Thomas Tippl mentioned that the partnership allows Bungie’s next universe to go to “the platform of (their) choice”. Bungie also retains the rights to the intellectual property.
Bungie itself issued a post on their website stating that it’s a “new chapter in Bungie’s history – one that begins with a partnership between Bungie and Activision and ends where we always knew it would, with World Domination. Our Next Big Thing now has a concrete path, leading from our studio to the platforms of our choosing. The business formalities are behind us. Our Constitution remains unchanged. We are still Bungie, still independent, and now we are free to bring our stories to an ever bigger audience.”
Apart from the Halo series, Bungie has created the Myth, Oni, and Marathon series. Who knows what they have planned with Activision?

So what is going to happen to COD: Modern Warfare without Infinity Ward?!
Call of Duty & Modern Warfare will still exist and come out per year, only it’ll be done by Activision in-house developers. Infinity Ward is still in Activision, but a number of key members have jumped ship, probably to Respawn Entertainment (started up by two former Infinity Ward founders).
Granted, Infinity Ward will not be the same given the circumstances, but who knows?
