Capcom Announces Street Fighter X Tekken: Yay?

The recent San Diego Comicon announced something a little out of the ordinary: a crossover game featuring both Street Fighter and Tekken. The bomb was dropped at Capcom’s “Street Fighter Mania! SSFIV and Beyond” panel at Comic-Con. The game will use the Street Fighter IV engine, will have a two-fighter tag team battle system, and will feature characters from both fighting games including SF’s Ryu and Chun-Li, along with Tekken’s Kazuya and Nina Williams.

Astute gamers shouldn’t act too surprised; SFIV producer Yoshinori Ono has been seen hanging around with Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada in various events in Asia and Japan which involved either of their fighting games. The big question is this: how will a game featuring characters with projectiles coincide with a game heavily focused on close-ranged juggling and combos?

…err….Never mind. Looks totally sweet!

Also, Capcom announced that they’ll be bringing in more Super SFIV costumes and Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online, with the former coming soon while the latter not so much (since Yoshinori Ono said that they’ve just started work on it). None of it matters, since the thought of possibly seeing Akuma fighting Devil Jin/ Zangief fighting Kuma/ Balrog fighting Steve is enough to give fighting game fans wet dreams.
