Civ V Out This Fall – End of My Social Life Follows

Posted in General

I’ve played most of the Civilization games to the death, succumbing to the one more click (of doom), and I’m guessing Civ 5 will probably be the same. It’s not that bad, you think, it’s just a game, you say.

Well, you’re wrong.

When Steam had a holiday sale, I figured, I might as well grab a copy of Civ 4, since it was the only game in the series I skipped after Civ 3. Now, I figured, what could go wrong? After all, Civ 3 was a breeze (sorta) and I didn’t get that addicted to it. So Civ 4 should roughly be the same no?

Well, no. Things started to go wrong when I learned of how the game works; it’s slightly different compared to Civ 3, with plenty more strategies to play and soon I found myself restarting aand restarting after defeat or where I could see I was fighting a losing war. I started playing in the evening on a weekend, and figured I would stop at 12am.

Come 12am, I figured it was just another turn and I would stop at 1am.
Come 1am, I knew I needed one more turn to hit that important tech for Tanks.
Come 2am, I realized I screwed up and missed getting the wrong technolgy for Tanks.

And the next thing I knew, it was 5am and I was getting my ass handed to me. Time for bed. Thankfully I managed to go cold turkey (yay Mass Effect 2!) and now I look upon in horror at the Civ 4 icon just sitting pretty on my desktop.

Civ 5 is going to turn me into a zombie. Help.
