Who asked for more post E3 content? Of course you want more. Talk more about Dragon Age’s lackluster/ goodness here.
What It Is: A brand-spanking new RPG from the folks at Bioware. After doing space opera, fiddled with Star Wars, and concocted a made-up oriental adventure, it’s high time Bioware went back to their roots of Baldur’s Gate. With a game called Dragon Age: Origins. The game is a fantasy-themed RPG where you control a Grey Warden (whom you can customize at the beginning of the game) to fight off the Blight who are planning to raise the ancient dragons to, you guessed it, rule over the world. The demo behind closed doors was basically showing off the conversation system with the party and a bit of combat with a dragon. Here, we were shown that conversations and interactions can lead to the party’s efficiency in combat. Well, we were told, not shown in great detail.
We did see the Grey Warden getting it on with stereotyped magician flirt Morrigan (but with the good parts cut off; wait for the full version lor), and with stereotypical goody-two-shoes-and-friends-with-you-since-childhood Leliana responding to that and being all huffy about it. Yes, there will be a lot of moral decisions to make throughout the game; and some major ones can enable your party members to turn against you at any time or just have their combat skills reduced.

What It Isn’t: Something new and inspired. Whether it’s sh***y Korean and Chinese MMOs to half-baked Diablo clones, you’ll always find the staple medieval fantasy setting not too far behind to dress up the aforementioned type of games. So why in the Nine Hells does everything in Dragon Age look very derivative? The Blight look like they’re the bastard child of the Uruk Hai and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and each of your party members look like stock characters from fantasy novel covers. Combat really needs some time getting used to; there was no one watching the booth to give us a bit of a walkthrough on what is what.
It is harsh to judge the quality of an RPG just by the demo, but even so, its trappings and setting does not entice me one bit. I just pray that the story, dialogue and relationship management system takes a turn for the best. Plus, what the f*** is up with that Marilyn Manson music? I heard rumors that it’s going to be included in-game. Are they just trying to jump the shark here?
In Short: I’m surprised that there are a few people who feel hyped up for this game. I just pray I’m wrong about my E3 assessment; Bioware’s got about four months or so left until the game’s release date in October.
