Brad McQuaid, best known as one of the creators, lead designers and producers of EverQuest (and later Executive Producer of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes) has announced that he has co-founded a new company focusing on casual/social gaming.
McQuad said on his blog, ” We’re starting small and growing as needed. Our focus is going to be on bringing some sophistication to casual/social gaming. At some point we will also return to developing MMOs.
After a needed 3 year break from 11 years of working on massively multiplayer games with the large teams, budgets, and 3-5 year development cycles I think this will be a nice change of pace. I’m also very excited to be involved in a genre that is relatively new to me. I look forward to bringing MMO design principles to casual/social gaming.”
McQuaid was responsible for many of the things that made EverQuest so successful, among them, maintaining “the vision” – EverQuest’s world plan if you will. Â And while Vanguard never reached the success levels of EverQuest, it still had some innovative design concepts (the Diplomacy system was pretty neat).
It remains to be seen what these ‘MMO design principles’ McQuaid  says he will be bringing to casual/social gaming are, but you can be sure his next ‘vision’ will be an interesting one.
