Famitsu publisher Enterbrain just announced that as of April 11 2010, over five million Playstation 3s have been sold in Japan. The top three games that were sold up to the aforementioned date for the system are Final Fantasy XIII (1.8 million copies), Metal Gear Solid 4 (706,461), and Yakuza 4 (526,093). Seeing as Yakuza 4 came out last month on the 18th, those are pretty impressive numbers.
In other PS3-related news, research firm The Diffusion Group in the US claims that the Playstation 3 has the highest percentage of broadband connected consoles when compared to the Xbox 360 and Wii. Based on the poll conducted on a sample group of console owners, the PS3 represented 78% of the group, while the Xbox 360 got 73%. The Wii garnered 54%. Factors that led to this outcome vary, from the fact that online gaming is free on the PS3, or that the machine has built-in wi-fi.
