Force Unleashed: In Your Hands!

Posted in General

Asy and I hopped down to the Nokia launch of their new N96 yesterday, fully prepared for an afternoon of handphone talks and non-gaming excitement. When lo and behold, what did we spy? Force Unleashed! On your handphone! We moved in for a closer look…

Asy’s man hands were no match for the tiny Nokia keypad. Hulk Shmassshh puny toy!

Made by THQ’s Wireless division, the game has you playing as buzzcut, angsty space guy, Starkiller, Darth Vader’s secret apprentice – so secret he never showed up in any of the movies! Just like the console versions, your task is to hunt down and exterminate those pesky jedis. Combat is initiated using the keypad or menu button to draw the ‘force runes’ displayed at the top of the screen – sort of like the DS’s Lost Magic. So if the rune goes from down to up with a tail pointing to the right, you would key in: 8 – 5 – 2 – 6, then 0 to enter. Different runes let you activate different force powers, depending on which particular flavor of evil you prefer: force grip-move stormtrooper over edge-release or force lightning to the face, the choice is yours. It was actually pretty fun to play, and it’s a nice break from the usual handphone game fodder.
