This week, we’ve seen Singtel, Starhub and M1 go at each other like a couple of fat guys eying that last slice of cheese cake. Things seem to have settled down now, with an apparent cease-fire; but I can’t help but wonder if one of them is still preparing a bomb to drop on the other two.
Err.. not literally of course. Unless they want to take some cues from the video game world. Hell, those guys will do anything.
5. Shinra Electric Power Company – Final Fantasy VII
On The Surface: Originally a small time weapons manufacturer. After the discovery of Mako, the largest energy supplier on the planet.
In Reality: Mako is a glowing green liquid, harvested directly from the lifestream: a river of souls that is literally the lifeblood and spirit of the planet. Environmentally friendly, they’re not.
4. Umbrella Corporation – Resident Evil Series
On The Surface: Bioengineering Pharmaceutical Company known for its line of cosmetics, consumer products and tools.
In Reality: Creator of multiple biological weapons, all involving rapid mutation, including the T-Virus, G-Virus, the far more creatively named Uroboros Virus, and the we’re-not-evil-at-all Nemesis Parasite.
3. Ultor Corporation – Saints Row and Red Faction Series
On The Surface: Ultor Corporation started off as a humble clothing manufacturer in Saints Row. They then expanded their enterprises into construction and redeveloping the city of Stilwater in Saints Row II. By 2075, they’re mining minerals on Mars.
In Reality: Ultor is guilty of enforced manual labor and extremely poor work conditions. It also has shady ties to street gangs. (But hell, who doesn’t?)
What gets Ultor on this list is that they ‘accidentally’ gave all of their employees The Plague, a side-effect of injections given during the annual company medical checkup.
2. Vault-Tec – Fallout Series
On The Surface: Designed and constructed The Vaults, underground installations designed to shelter the population of the US in the event of nuclear holocaust.
In Reality: Used the vaults, not to save the citizens of the United States, but instead to conduct immoral experiments on live, human subjects.
These experiments included: using subliminal messages to create super soldiers; the creation of an entire population of human clones; the constant use of psychoactive drugs; putting one man in a vault with 999 women; putting one woman in a vault with 999 men; putting twenty men and ten women in a vault with one panther; and putting one man in a vault with a box of puppets.
1. Union Aerospace Corporation – Doom Series
On The Surface: Military-Industrial research company involved in weapons development, space exploration and teleportation.
In Reality: Opened a portal directly to Hell.
