Friday Fives – Games Unveiled At E3 2010

Posted in Friday Fives

Sure, Microsoft’s Cult of Kinect was making all the headlines, but what were the best games unveiled at E3?

5. Twisted Metal

David Jaffe is a filthy liar. Despite repeatedly denying that he was working on a new Twisted Metal game, lo and behold he turns up at the Sony press conference and announces, you guessed it, a new Twisted Metal game.

I’m telling you, this industry is on a slippery slope towards drug addiction and arms dealing. What’s next? Some sort of pseudo-religious cult where people wear white robes and stand around in the dark raising their arms to the heavens?

4. Warhammer 40k Dark Millennium Online

The Warhammer 40K MMO, a.k.a. the industry’s worst kept secret ever, was officially announced by THQ. Game trailer looks promising, although it would’ve been nice if they had made the UI look a little bit more like the WoW one. Am I right?

(I’m wrong)

3. GoldenEye  For Wii

The greatest console FPS game ever made (yes I said it) is coming to the Wii. It amazes me that its taken them this long to think of this. A enhanced remake of GoldenEye is probably the second most requested remake title ever.

2. Portal 2

Speaking of filthy liars. Meet Gabe Newell.

This is the man who once said, “The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels…they should just cancel it and do a ‘do over’”. And now, not only is he saying that Portal 2 will be released on the same day for the PS3, PC and Xbox 360, but that the PS3 version will be “the best console version out there”.

Next: Gabe Newell announces, “Cookies are a sometimes food”.

1. Kid Icarus Uprising

This is the reason you (and millions of other people) will be buying a Nintendo 3DS on launch day.

“I’d like to thank Sony for their gracious hospitality and for not repeatedly punching me in the face”, this is how Valve’s Gabe Newell introduced himself on stage at Sony’s E3 event.

He also introduced the fact that Portal 2 would be coming to PS3… as the ‘best console version’.

The surprise is really not that Portal 2 (which looks great) is coming to PS3… it’s simply that Gabe turned up in the first place.

The PlayStation 3 version of Portal 2 will, however, be the only console version to include Steamworks.

Gabe Newell, also points out that, “When the PlayStation 3 was introduced, I was the one of the platform’s biggest critics. However, Sony Computer Entertainment has proved that the PlayStation 3 is the most open platform of all the current generation consoles and has worked extremely hard to make the platform the most desirable for consumers and developers. As such, we are delighted to announce Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 and believe the Steamworks support included will make it the best console version of the game.”

Gabe Newell…Gabe….Gabe….now you know which console pwns!

I recalled one certain analyst said: To say another game is better than the other is an opinion but to say that the PS3 is better than the Xbox 360 IS NOTHING BUT AN UNBIASED FACT!!!
