Friday Fives – Rained Out Games

As I sit here making plans for what to do in the event that this deluge of rainfall never stops Â (”1. build a big boat”), Â I started thinking about all those games where rain is more than just a weather effect to show off (Richard Garriott, Ultima IX, I’m looking at you).

5. Vampire Rain

Wow this game was terrible. If you never played it, imagine Metal Gear Solid, but with vampires instead of regular soldiers. Even if that sounds awesome, trust me, it wasn’t.

4. Raw Danger

Raw Danger is set in the year 2010 (hey! that’s this year!), in the world’s safest and most advanced city (hey! that’s Singapore! – well sort of, Geo City is built entirely underground).

Despite being ‘the safest city in the world’, Geo City’s inept planning council failed to account for any kind of flood prevention system (like, you know, drains), so when a torrential downpour hits the city, the entire place is soon flooded.

3. Hard Rain – Left For Dead 2

The Hard Rain Campaign is my favorite map in Left 4 Dead 2. The Sugar Mill, with its roaming witches around every corner, is the scariest, most atmospheric levels in the entire series. Then, when you’re finally through it, you find out you have to do it again. In reverse. In the rain.

2. BloodRayne

1. Heavy Rain

Love that Japanese box art

No surprises for predicting this one. Heavy Rain’s dark atmosphere, innovative design and control system, as well as having one of the best narratives we’ve seen in a video game (also the rain effectsÂ look really good) land it the number one spot.

I just want to say that I have a delight Vampires Suck! Ever since it was announced, I have been on the edge of my seat waiting for it to come out! I nearly passed out when I had to wait after I saw the trailer, I can’t wait to catch what is going to happen in the film! Xoxo
