Another year, another King of Fighters tourna…I mean another EVO Championship Series event. For those not in the know, EVO is perhaps the biggest congregation of 2D & 3D fighting tournaments in the world next to Super Opera in Japan. The latest EVO Championship Series is happening this year on July 17th until the 19th, meaning that the particular weekend will be filled with fights of pro-level capacity.

The games up for contesting include Street Fighter IV, SoulCalibur IV, Marvel Vs Capcom 2 (Pringles-filled), Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (to lure Dave Sirlin in due to him being sick of SFIV), Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, and BlazBlue. That’s a lot of fighting, guys and gals.

Here are the highlights most of us without plane tickets to Las Vegas will be missing out on:

  • Special appearance by Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono
  • The world’s largest live Street Fighter IV competition
  • Tekken 6 playable on console
  • First SoulCalibur IV finals tournament
  • Watch all the action streaming live, for free, featuring top players and expert commentary
  • The best players from around the US and the world, including Japan’s legendary champion Daigo Umehara
  • The newest build of Tatsunoko Vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars
  • First publicly playable Marvel Vs Capcom 2 for X360 and PSN
  • Complete coverage from IGN Insider, recording HQ, direct-feed tournament matches available for download following the event

In case you’re wondering how we can catch all the glam and glitz of it all, fret not for the internet has you covered. EVO 2009 will be streamed live all weekend (links below), with the stream running all day from July 17th to the 19th, featuring kick-ass tourney matches and expert commentary which would be drowned out by people cheering the fighters on.

As a certain Mean Gene would put it, let’s get ready to RUMMMBLLLEEE!!!!
