Armor Abilities R’ Us
Rather than having to deal with collectible items you use up at one go, each Spartan and Elite can choose a particular weapon loadout that comes with a specific armor ability. You can use it as many times as you wish after its cooldown period is over, and they bring a lot of strategy to the table.
Armor Lock
You do a cool fist-to-the-ground pose and become surrounded by blue energy. While you’re in this state, nothing can touch you. Plasma grenades shed from your body, vehicles can’t knock you down, bullets and explosions can’t hurt you. When you let go of the Armor Ability button, you release a shockwave which drains nearby enemy shield and shut down vehicles temporarily.
Essentially, you might want to pack a heavy weapon before you activate Armor Lock so that you can take down a group of enemies you just drained. However, you are a sitting duck to snipers and long-range enemies.
Perfect For: Players who are willing to take one for the team. You know, the foolhardy bravado-filled kind who risk their neck out in the open and serve as a distraction.
Jetpack
Halo: Reach suddenly feels like Tribes 2 thanks to this new power-up. Activating it jettisons you up the air pretty quick. Do remember to use it as you’re landing, since you can still take damage (and stupidly kill yourself) from falling down heights. The good thing is that you can take high-rise camping enemies by surprise or even find a high area to perch onto. Heck, you can even take someone from surprise above, provided they aren’t too wary of your presence. The bad news is that you’re an easy target for a lock-on, a wandering Banshee, or any enemy who looks up once in a while.
Perfect For: Players who can multi-task between camping and sniping from far-reaching spots on a map to hit-and-run shock troopers.
Evade
You will do a simple dodge roll. A bit dull, sure, but you can quickly attack after a roll. The Elite Gladiator loadout users benefit from this since they can dodge and shrug off of someone’s sight and proceed to one-hit kill them with their energy sword.
Perfect For: Close-range players who prefer narrow spaces, shotguns and energy swords.
Active Camo
You’ll be cloaked. When you’re moving, you will be semi-transparent, but when you’re crouching and crawling, you will be totally invisible. This ability will jam the radar of anyone close to you, so enemies will know that you will be around the vicinity when you activate it.
Elites will get this ability; they’ll need it if they have any hope of making it far in Invasion. You’ll be surprised at how effective this is in an open area, particularly if you use this ability in a blind corner and you see an enemy about to approach near your vicinity.
Perfect For: Campers and snipers. Also great for sneaking around narrow corridors.
Sprint
You run like the wind for a few seconds. You can’t attack while running though; use it to get to cover or to an unguarded objective quickly. It’s also great when you’re running the heck away from people chasing you when they discovered your camping spot. You can still get hit when you’re dashing, so do prepare yourself early to get a head start.
Perfect For: Hit-and-run long and medium-range shooters.
