Hard Corps: Uprising Is Contra Drawn By The BlazBlue Guys

There was already news and sneak previews about this upcoming tribute to Konami’s run-and-gun called Contra. Said tribute, called Hard Corps: Uprising, is already confirmed to be coming out for Playstation Network and Xbox Live Arcade at the end of the year.

According to a recent Siliconera interview, producer Kenji Yamamoto said that the idea was the perfect marriage between Arc System Works’ beautiful art and animation, and Konami’s Contra brand. The game is an inspiration of the Sega Megadrive classic Contra: Hard Corps. Unlike its other brethren, this new 2D shooter will have the main characters sporting life bar which lets them take up toÂ three hits before croaking.

While a travesty to some, keep in mind that the Japanese version of Contra: Hard Corps did give players a life bar. Yamamoto-san said that he wanted to get first timers in on the 2D shooting action with the life bar feature, but he also added another mode where the life bar’s taken away. Another new mode introduced is Rising mode where you can access a customization menu to build up your character with items you purchase in-game. New weapon power-ups are examples of the items you can purchase, though I do wonder if they’ll add in costumes or accessories to dress up the playable characters in the game.

Characters aren’t relegated to just shooting on all eight directions and jumping. Arc System Works spice things up by giving them special moves you can pull off when dashing. Characters can also reflect bullets back at whoever shot them in the first place; a worthy skill to master for hardcore players who turn off the life bar feature of the game.

Whether the game will add in cameos from BlazBlue or Guilty Gear characters remain to be seen, but Yamamoto-san confirmed that there will be DLC; probably to tie in with Rising mode. It won’t be long until gamers keen on double-teaming a a run-and-gun shooter will get their fix as the months pass by. In clear HD animated graphics to boot.
