Heavy Rain May Sell Like Hotcakes, Says Sony CEO

Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Jack Tretton seems pleased with the recent sales numbers and reception of Quantic Dream’s recent title Heavy Rain. He states that the game’s pre-sales were “off the charts” and that there is no need for a Playstation 4 yet. According to an interview conducted by Fast Company, Jack Tretton says that there’s still plenty of life left in the console and that it’s hitting its three-years-plus stride, when the traditional console’s lifespan is past the halfway mark. Here’s what else he says concerning Sony:

“When somebody can craft the technology that exceeds what we’re able to do on the PS3, but we are still just starting to harness it. I don’t know what the percentage would be, but we’ve clearly just scratched the surface in the PS3. You’re just starting to see games like Little Big Planet, Uncharted 2, and Final Fantasy XIII, that are really taking advantage of the technology. You are going to see more and more value and more and more innovation across the board.”

On the other side of the spectrum, analysts like Michael Pachter states that Heavy Rain won’t do so well sales-wise. On a recent episode of Game Trailer’s Bonus Round segment, he said that “(the game is) too niche and it’s a new IP. New IP and niche is just tough; if it doesn’t appeal to the masses – if you can’t sell it at Walmart, you aren’t gonna sell millions.” Until the sales result hit the next few weeks, it’s hard to say what the state of Heavy Rain will be like outside Sony fandom.  I’m not into 8-hour cutscenes with interactive segments filled with floating button inputs on-screen, but that’s just me.

Interesting blog post. Things i would like to make contributions about is that pc memory must be purchased should your computer can no longer cope with that which you do with it. One can deploy two random access memory boards of 1GB each, as an illustration, but not certainly one of 1GB and one with 2GB. One should make sure the car maker’s documentation for own PC to make sure what type of memory is essential.

Whew! We had a ginormous storm last night that knocked out power to a good part of our small town. Thankfully no major injuries or anything like that.

This is a game everyone needs to at least try. If I were still writing for GameAxis, I’d give it a 92 out 100. As it is, I’ve reviewed it for a Canadian game magazine and they use a 5 point scoring system, so I gave it a 4.6/5. It’s not perfect, but it’s brave, experimental, daring and ambitious in the things it attempts. Graphics are phenomenal, but let down by screen tearing, score is amazing, but unbalanced by incredibly uneven and inconsistent voice acting, and there are some narrative structural problems, but all that aside, the experience, when taken as a whole, is one of the best this generation. Gamers need to at least try it once, and if they don’t like it, they can go back to their FPS and action games, but if they do like it, Heavy Rain just provided proof that gaming is more than just simple adrenaline, run n’ gun experiences. It can deeper, more affective and more sophisticated than that.

I agree with grayson. I preordered the game in one of the gamestore in sg. But until today MDA is still holding it. Haiz, the game is just like the weather now. Maybe if it rains heavily today, the game will be released, haha

  15. Jayson says:

They will seel in Singapore provided MDA doesn’t cock up too often like now!
