iPhone Gaming Care Meter: Cock-A-Doodle Inc

Posted in Hands-On

Stepping into the office on Friday to a grumpy editor wasn’t how I wanted to start off the upcoming weekend, but I figured we all have to go through that some of the time. So it was with great bravery and courage that I hovered just outside the door.

“Hey, Kichigai, can I use the word c**k in a blogpost for the next iPhone game review?”

“What?” he exclaimed, before giving me an evil looking glare. “I’m assuming you have a good reason.”

“Er,” I spluttered, “It’s part of the game name?”

Said evil glare continued.

“I’m guessing that’s a yes,” I continued in the face of the glare, manfully retreating  before the word came down to  censor c**k in Minorxis’ Cock-a-doodle Inc, a tycoon management game that’s surprisingly fun and yet challenging.

As you can tell from the name, the game’s really got more to do with chickens then parts of the male anatomy. Even stranger, it’s got more to do with egg laying chickens, the hens, then the male rooster (also called cocks). Heck, to be honest, we didn’t see a single cock in the game, so the title of the game may be a tad misleading. So what the heck is the game about then? Well, if you’ve always had a penchant for chicken farming and then slaughtering said chickens to build your own fried chicken fast food empire – this game is it.

You start of as a complete noob (of course) with no experience. Your uncle, who was supposed to be the management guru, got caught in a car crash and you are forced to take his place to help restart the business of a failing fast food empire. The first few missions start of relatively easy, but they get progressively harder – the learning curve isn’t too bad, and if you’re an achievement nut, there’s always a 100% rate to get for each mission.

There’s plenty to do in this game, researching, managing the supply chain of your chickens: from hatching, to growing them to ensuring they get to your restaurant on time. Then there’s more – managing your workers, calming them, ensuring they are cooking the right type of chickens, and finally managing promotions, doing research, upgrading facilities and even mini-games at the arcade to earn a little bit more capital for your expenditure.

So, with so much content, you’re expecting to pay mega bucks for this game but surprisingly, it’s priced at a really cheap price of just US$0.99 for now. Given how cheap it is, it’s great value for a game that will easily give you plenty of hours of playtime including trying to hit 100% achivement scores and finding every item in the game. So don’t wait, go grab Cock-a-doodle Inc before you head over to the nearest KFC for your next job interview.
