Because the first LittleBigPlanet was ingenious, successful (2 million levels served online, yo!), and also happen to be one of the few games to make our GameAxis Unwired designers squeal with delight, a sequel is already in the works. What we’re lacking about the sequel is, of course, information. After a bit of scouring around the interweb (specifically Neogaf and Game Informer), there’s a lot to be hyped up about Media Molecule’s sequel. For instance:
- The game will have less focus on platforming; instead, you can create different types of games with it. Ergo, there will be an all-new level creator that lets you make up different genres of games using Sackboys.Even one of the Media Molecule designers made a Command & Conquer clone.
- The in-game HUD can be customize; for example, you can make a versus health bar like in a fighting game.
- Users can now create A.I enemies called Sackbots. You can give it weaknesses, and even increase its mass and size. You can cut and paste the A.I of each Sackbot, but each of the Sackbot’s individual look will be different.
- You can record your own sounds and voices.
- The story levels in the game are not country-based. Instead, it’s now based on periods of time. For example, there’s a Renaissance-techno level that screams steampunk, while there’s a level combining sleek futuristic technology with fluffy animals. There’s even an “art noveau” concept where there are trees, forests, and plants all made “cleanly”; basically it’s the closest LBP2 is getting to a forest level.
In short: tons of cool stuff, and still has its four-player mode intact. Also, a chance to make Sackboy editions of other videogame genres.
