One of the most exciting products at CES this year was Alienware’s 11 inch netbook, the M11x. Actually, netbook is the wrong word, this thing definitely falls into the ultra-mobile PC category.
Today, Dell officially launched the M11x in Singapore.
We got a chance to take a look at the M11x at Dell’s launch event. It looks just like its bigger brothers, the M15x and M17x, complete with Alienware light up keyboard and Alienware case, only miniaturized. It’s actually really cute (although ‘cute’ may not be what you’re aiming for as a hardcore gamer)
Dell were running Blackshot on it, which ran smoothly, but probably wasn’t the best way to showcase the M11x’s capabilities. I was assured by one of their product managers that it would run Crysis at 40-50 FPS. Make of that what you will.

- Processor: Up to Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 (1.3GHz, 800 MHz, 3MB)
- Graphics: 1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT335M
- Memory: Up to 8GB DDR 1066MHz
- Hard Drive: Up to 500GB 7200 RPM or 256GB Solid State Drive
- Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
- Connection: 802.11 b/g/n & Optional Internal WWAN
- Ports: HDMI / VGA / 3 USB / Media Card Reader / FireWire
- Battery Life: Up to 8.5 Hours of Battery Life
- Performance: Over 6,100 3DMark 06 Score
- Weight: Just under 4.5 lbs
Price: Starting at S$1699 (to compare, M15x starts at S$2799)
Stuff To Note:
No optical drive, so if you’re thinking of buying one of these, be prepared to carry around a separate disc drive or invest in a huge USB flash drive.
Battery is built into the machine, so no carrying around extra battery packs.
Up to 8.5 hours battery life translates to about 2 hours of battery life while gaming.
The 4.5 lbs weight isn’t that light, especially compared to other 11 inch notebooks. It’s still pretty portable though, and much lighter than the M15x.
The M11x should be up for purchase on Dell’s Alienware website on the 5th February (this Friday).
