Amidst the GamesCom madness, there’s been a spot of bad news for gamers waiting for Mafia II to come out here. According to local retailers (via Geekbot), Mafia II is officially banned by the Media Authority of Singapore (MDA) because of the game’s Playboy-themed pornographic content tailored as collectibles in the game’s world. Since the Playboy magazine is a no-no here, this leads to the game being banned. Odd, considering that there are other games that present nudity in a gratuitous fashion *coughGTALost&DamnedcoughKane&Lynch2cough*.
Will MDA have a change of heart like how they retracted the ban on Mass Effect? Who knows, but the GAX forums (alongside other Mafia fans) are already nerd-raging at these turn of events. Myself included. Update: Stay tune while we wait for Take Two’s official word on the situation.

First you have to establish what exactly you are afraid of. Then take it in steps. Are you afraid of your hair getting caught in it? Do you think it will blow up? Think of all scenarios that might hinder you not wasting time… Then, take it to a place in your house with you where you are most comforable. don’t plug it in just yet… sit down and practice holding it and turning it on over and over. Once you can do that with out flinching… Plug it in. Sit down and get comfy. It may take a while. Try turning it on. Once you get it on, hold it there for a few minutes. examine it. Then turn it off. keep doing this until you are fully comfortable with doing this. In no time, you cured yourself. Good luck!

Was the game banned in the first place? If banned, sure can find on MDA’s site one. So confusing! Didn’t the post author check first before posting? Good thing though now it’s confirmed not banned.
Walao.. you know what ban lifted means anot? Means It was banned before la.. and as for normal confirmed got a lot of censorship on the Asia version.. so get R1 or R2 instead

MDA implement a token ban on 100 websites. Unfortunately, Playboy happen to be 1 of them. This ban includes magazine as well as the website. In Mafia 2, players can collect historical centerfold playboy girls, and the achievement section allows players to review the centerfold girls. If MDA pass the game, there will be someone out there who will cry double standard. I dont think MDA will ban this game if they do not have playboy endosement. What to do? :(

My bad about the R21 rating for games, I thought that they shared the same as Cinema Ratings. However, If that is the case then it just further justifies my point that the rating system is just another means to earn profit.
Yeah you’re right, I totally agree that most games have the stickers stuck on the shrink-wrap. but unfortunately, I got the Dante’s Inferno Death Edition with the MDA sticker stuck on the box itself. So therefore I’m entitled to bitch about it.
How does the rating system earn profit?
The thing that pisses me off now is that since we have a rating system for local games, so shouldn’t Mafia 2 just get a R21 rating instead of being banned ? It isn’t as if the game contains sensitive political , racial or religious material.which might offend certain parties…
MDA make gamers pay $1 extra to get our games rated,They then proceed to defile our game casings with their horrendous stickers. They say it’s necessary so that the game won’t get banned.
I’m fine with all that but what bothers me is that why only the big name games like GTA4 , Dante’s inferno , Mass effect 2 have to go through the process and some games still get banned. I think it is safe to say that the only reason for the rating system is just so that MDA can make a profit off the top selling games ?
But to be fair, MDA is under a system which was created by a bunch of old farts who are bound by tradition. My only wish is that these old farts would just die faster so that future generations can take over.
