BioWare has announced that Dragon Age: Inquisition, the third title in their beloved role-playing franchise, will be out later this year on October 7. We’ve got the new trailer accompanying the news embedded below.
“Our goal with Dragon Age: Inquisition is to usher in the next generation of role playing games,” said Aaryn Flynn, General Manager of BioWare Edmonton and Montreal in a press release. “Players will experience the rich storylines and characters that they’ve come to expect from BioWare, in an expansive world with large open environments just begging to be explored.”
Inquisition will see gameplay elements from the earlier two titles, Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II, notably in terms of combat. The focus will return to tactical ability – that is preparation, positioning as well as team composition – complete with the option of pausing for an overhead view; yet the camera will retain a close third-person perspective for better immersion purposes.
Players take on the role of an Inquisitor investigating a tear in the Veil, on the trail of the past two protagonists as the world embarks on an all-out war between templars and mages. As with past releases there’ll be several races to choose from, each resulting in different interactive experiences.
Dragon Age: Inquisition is running on the impressive Frostbite 3 engine and will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC. Pre-order information for the Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions can be found here.
