The folks at Insomniac may be living up to their name. The studio behind Ratchet & Clank has announced Song of the Deep, an underwater Metroidvania-style action-adventure for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Players join Merryn on a quest to find her missing father, last seen leaving on a fishing trip. When a vivid dream shows him trapped underwater, the young girl quickly builds a submarine out of spare parts and begins her rescue mission.
Inspired by Insomniac Games Chief Creative Officer Brian Hastings’ own daughter, Song of the Deep sis “a tale of love, heartbreak, and triumph.” Merryn will uncover plenty of secrets in the ocean’s depths, from the ruins of lost civilizations to lively underwater gardens, and the journey’s rife with either meeting new friends or fending off monsters..
The game certainly looks good!
What caught most people’s attention is the tie-up with GameStop for physical copies. The company hasn’t won itself many favors with the gaming community in the US, and commenters are latching onto that as a point of attack. The alternative route here — and the only one for us — would be to purchase the game digitally.
Song of the Deep launches in summer for US$14.99 (roughly S$22).
