THIS is how you follow up to one of The Greatest Games Ever Created?!

Fact: Okami for the PS2 is perhaps the best game ever created that is known to cure cancer and convert even the most jaded of gamers and game critics into fanboys falling in love with the medium they grew up with. Naturally, a sequel to this great game has to live up to its predecessor or even surpass expectations. Imagine to my surprise that Okamiden, the official sequel to Capcom and Studio Clover, is made for the DS and follows up a few months after the original game. Since Studio Clover moved out of Capcom and became Platinum Games under Sega, a new team under Capcom will be helming the project. Motohide Eshiro, the producer behind Ace Attorney Investigations and Kuniomi Matsushita, the director of the Wii port for Okami, will be helming the project.

Chibiterasu puts the "chibi" in his/her name.

Before you start frothing in the mouth and proclaim blasphemy, hear Capcom’s plan out: the game features a new wolf named Chibiterasu and the return of the loudmouth bugman Issun from the first game. The Celestial Brush will make headway in this game, as you will use your stylus to draw scribbles and strokes to make stuff appear in the game world. Okamiden will also feature cooperation, where Chibiterasu will have someone riding his/her back and different types of puzzles will present itself to take advantage of this fact.

Personally, I’ll save my frothing in the mouth reserve judgement as soon as we hear more news about it. I just hope that the DS is capable of bringing the original game’s aesthetic vision and feel. There’s only so much a DS cartridge can do. I also want to hear what Hideki Kamiya, the storywriter and director of the first game, has to say about this.
