Look out, Apple: it looks like Sony will be throwing the gauntlet when it comes to digital music and video distribution.
The Financial Times (you need to register to see) reports that Sony will be unveiling that service at the IFA show in Berlin on September 1st (that’s today!) The service will begin life on Sony’s Playstation platforms and extend to other networked devices like Vaio computers and Bravia televisions. President of Sony Howard Stringer said last year that 90 per cent of Sony products will be able to connect to each other and with the internet by 2011.
Sounds good and all, but video and music have their own set of strict regional restrictions; the service may not be as bountiful for those living outside of Europe and the US if the region-locking on iTunes content are of any indication.
