The organizers behind the impending street brawling this month.
Just this morning, Round1.sg and Tornado held a short meet-and-greet session between them and the press (including yours truly) to tell us a bit about the Super Battle Opera 2010 Tournament for Street Fighter IV in Singapore. The Round1.sg members, consisting of Wilson “Tetra” Chia, Jon “Jonda” Lim, and Yong “vx” Hui, stated that this is the first time Singapore will be holding something this grand for the local arcade scene. In fact, among the whole of South-East Asia, Singapore’s the only country holding the tournament.
- The tournament itself is the first time both the corporate side and community work in tandem. Which means there’s no officiating and commentating done by people new to the arcade fighting game scene. Everything will be done fairly by the community’s standards.
- Why not Super Street Fighter IV? Apparently, the arcade version is rumored to be coming out this October, and all games used for SBO have to be arcade games. Thus, it’s vanilla SFIV for the tournament.
- The matches will be three vs. three, so find a good partner for the matches.
- Qualifiers are held on the 17th and 24th of July. The finals will be held on the 31st of July and will have the remaining eight teams duking it out.
- The winner will go on a paid trip to Japan to participate in the Grand Finals on September.
- If all goes well, Round1.sg plans to open up more qualifiers for future arcade games like a future Tekken, King of Fighters, or any other 2-D/3-D fighter that’s hot.
