Sony-PS4-Console-Concept-1

While the Sony Playstation 3 is still ticking, Sony still has some forward planning to think about and has ideas for the PS4. Japanese website PC Watch reported that Sony is looking for alternatives to their current console’s Cell architecture. Sony also considered a modified version of the Synergistic Processor Unit, but opt to go towards a multi-core CPU instead.

While Microsoft and Nintendo are also looking to alternative processing designs for their next-generation systems, don’t expect them to come out sooner than you think. It normally takes about 2 years to develop a new console, meaning that you’ll hear something more concrete on the PS4/Xbox 720/Wii 2 in the year 2013. Still, the thought of a new multi-core CPU in the works specifically for Sony would sound intriguing to the most hardcore of tech-heads.
