Starcraft 2 Multiplayer Madness: MVPs On The Interwebz

Posted in Hands-On

While we love playing Starcraft 2 online and usually getting our collective butts handed to us by pros who have a high APM count and memorized the layout of the new maps, we should give props to those who got the first wave invites and post up videos of their pro-level exploits. From the daring to the silliest (dare to be stupid?), here are our favorite Starcraft 2-related videos circulating the web.

Starcraft 2 Planetary Fortress Rush

This seems like a high-risk maneuver (you have to upgrade the Command Center when it’s landed), but if you manage to upgrade your Command Centre fast so that it has a gun sticking on top of its head and park it on an enemy base, the payoff feels very, very satisfying.

What NOT To Do In Starcraft 2 Multi-Player

We’re not high-level players, but at least we don’t do something as stupid as moving our lone Terran Command Centre to a far-off gold mineral-heavy location. Like this commentator’s Terran opponent. This also stresses the importance of communication between teammates in 2v2 games.

Baneling Power

The new Zergling morph upgrade, the Baneling, can bring in the victory to your game if used right. As demonstrated by Starcraft pro player (or even Starcraft god) David Kim, he harasses the opposition with mutalisks and zerglings until the coup de grace with the Banelings. These new units certainly make up for the suckiness of the Infested Terrans, since the Banelings don’t kill each other inadvertedly when they explode close to each other. Check out the sweet APMs and slick camera-switching work.

Sentries Soliloque

More David Kim mad skillz play, this time he’s using an army of Sentries to create multiple Force Fields in a seemingly open space area. This is so that he can block and segment huge armies and kill them piece by piece. Why do I get the feeling that if the game comes out, the majority of South-East Asian players will be abusing this tactic to “kiasu” levels of absurdity?

Zerg Riverdance

For genocidal bug-ugly purple beasties, they sure do get a lot of love from us humans.

Terran Witticisms

Starcraft 2 wouldn’t be a sequel to the 1998 hit RTS if it weren’t equipped with quips from units if you keep clicking on them for too long. “Apocalypse Now” references, Arnold Susah-Nak-Eja piloting the Thor mech, Banshee pilots reciting airplane take-off protocol; Blizzard spared no expense with the obvious and not-so-obvious jokes.
