The PS3 Gets A New Firmware Update

Fresh from the Sony oven, the PS3 gets a  firmware update and it seems the update is geared towards making things easier for PlayStation Plus subscribers ( and also of course those of us with lesser accounts as well).

For PlayStation Plus subscribers, the update will bring a feature that uploads your trophies and game saves to the cloud automatically.

For the non-paid users, they get a new category on the XMB interface labelled ‘TV/Video Services’ which includes video applications like Netflix, Hulu PLUS, and VUDU though we doubt we will get to use any of these services over here in Southeast Asia.

And for those who are watching 3D Blu-ray movies on their PS3, the update will provide features like 3D support when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-ray, high-definition audio (DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output) will be supported during playback of 3D Blu-ray movies. To further show Sony’s support of 3D, the update will also allow viewing of 3D digital photos in MPO format on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.
