Gee, I wonder why worldwide Modern Warfare 2 coverage has been sparse on our side? Here are a few possible reasons why:

a) We’re too busy wrapping up December’s issue to even post anything online

b) We’re too busy playing Modern Warfare 2 online on the weekend

c) All of the above.

Still, we can’t help but at least collect all the news related to Activision’s biggest meal ticket yet: Modern Warfare 2.

Modern Warfare 2 Sold 4.7 Million Copies In A Day

Yes, a day. Four point seven million (close to 5 million) is a lot of copies for a game. In the first 24 hours upon its official release last week, the game racked up $310 million in sales both in North America and the UK.  This breakthrough tops what Halo 3 sold on its first day (3 million copies, by the by). Bobby Kotick of Activision Netting US$20 Million In Stock

Because of the huge sales numbers on the first day, CEO of Activision Bobby Kotick celebrate by exercising stock options that net him more than US$20 million. According to Gamasutra, Kotick sold 1,931,102 shares of that stock at prices ranging from US$11.4304 to US$11.5107. This all amounts to that US$20 million, since the stock price is over ten times what it was back in 2000.

Man Steals 100 Copies of MW2

So a guy in Meadville, Pennsylvania walked in a GameStop store about 7pm last Tuesday and told clerks he had a friend waiting outside who would shoot them if they called the police. He proceeded to take a 100 copies of the game (among other things) that’s all worth estimately US$6,900. That’s pretty low.

MW2’s Ghost Might Get His Own Game

At the game’s UK launch event, Craig Fairbrass (voice actor for MW2’s Ghost) might get a game of his own (in addition to the spinoff comic). From a quote on the Destructoid post:

“I did in the last game a voice for a character called Gaz and in this game I’m now voicing a guy called Ghost, who now just got a spin-off comic of his own and they’re talking about another little game to go with it,” Fairbrass said, “so, I’m quite excited about it. It’s grown and grown and grown.”

He was also asked on why people like Ghost and said, ” “I don’t know. It’s the whole thing I suppose of not knowing who he is. He’s like the head of the SAS and… I’m just so thrilled to be a part of it, I mean it just gets bigger and bigger each year.” Whatever it is, Activision’s sure to already have spin-off ideas as this point in typing out this post.

MW2 Banned In Russia (UPDATE)

Apparently, the “No Russian” level in MW2 has proven to be a point of discussion and is filled with so much heat than an orangutan’s mating season in Borneo. So much so that Russia has recalled all copies of the game from stores and are banning the title. According to the Hellforge blog, the ire started from the website GOtPS3 who voiced their anger towards the game’s storyline, blaming it as American-centric and not giving any regard towards other cultures.

The game is pending validation from the Russian government, so Russia can expect the censored version of the game to come out within a few weeks or so.

So Modern Warfare 2: big launch, big numbers, long amount of times being dedicated for multiplayer mode. I still feel for PC gamers though: they’re getting gimped from their own version of the game, considering that the earlier COD series got huge thanks to dedicated servers.
