This Week In Releases/Titles: This. Is. Olympus!

God of War III (PS3)

god of war 3

There isn’t much to say about this blockbuster except:

i) Kratos is still angry, whitewashed, and out for blood.

ii) Holy crap, is he fighting on top of a huge titan?

iii) If you love God of War I & II, chances are you’re buying it tomorrow first thing after school/work. Or just taking the day off.

iv) Some publishers are kicking themselves right now by releasing their games this week.

Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening (PC, Xbox 360, PS3)

Hope you still have your Dragon Age: Origins saves prim and proper; this one might be a doozy of an expansion. Personally, I’d like to see if my Lady Godiva can find more young willing female adventures to shack up with. And by shacking up, I mean…wait, the innuendo-joke thing doesn’t work like that, does it?

Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver (DS)

pokemon soulsilver

It’s a remake of Pokémon Gold/Silver, now on the DS with brand-spanking new graphics, interface changes, and more Pokémans to collect. If you had to pick, I’d suggest SoulSilver. Quetzacoatl-like Pokémon beat giant birds any day of the week.

Metro 2033 (PC, Xbox 360)

metro 2033_01

A potential silent hit, this one is an FPS with a post apocalyptic social commentary-laced storyline, a world where bullets are a commodity, and hard-as-heck gameplay.

Resonance of Fate (PS3, Xbox 360)

resonance of fate

Hey, another tri-Ace game. Here’s what to expect if you’re as jaded as I am: medium-to-high learning curve for the battle system, Motoi Sakuraba doing jazz and keyboard-heavy compositions for the music, and a badly-paced storyline that needlessly drags on. Hopefully the latter can change when I get a hold of a copy of this.

Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight (PC)

c&c4

It’s the first Command & Conquer with a pretty strict DRM policy. Nonetheless, don’t let that bar you in enjoying what could be the final game in the C&C canon.

Perfect Dark (Xbox 360)

perfect dark 01

Back then, it was a GoldenEye 64 rip-off that did pretty well and was fun to play. Now, it’s still a GoldenEye 64 rip-off with better graphics, a S$15 price tag, and hopefully still fun to play. Enough fun to wash away the mediocre trappings of Perfect Dark Zero, that is.

Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon (Wii)

fragile dreams

If you like a post-apocalyptic game involving more exploration and puzzles and less shooting of irradiated zombies and all manners of creatures, Fragile Dreams could be the game for you. It’s beautiful, it could have a nice story to follow, and has atmosphere.

Infinite Space (DS)

infinite space

Last, and certainly not least, we have another Platinum Games’ game out this year in English. Infinite Space is what happens when you make Star Trek a single-player experience with anime stereotypes. I manage to dabble into this game; it’s pretty good once it opens up its ship customization and space exploration mechanic. Will it be a potential candidate for RPG of the year? Wait for our review and find out!
