It seems likely, but analysis from consumer research by OTX’s GamePlan Insights prove that multi-platform console gamers may be making the switch to the PS3 (or the “Dark Side” as some would call it”) for sequels to games they have owned on the Xbox 360. According to the data compiled by Gamasutra, Xbox 360 owners are planning to invest in the PS3 versions of sequels like the upcoming Assassin’s Creed II and Modern Warfare 2. Fifteen percent of those who plan to buy the PS3 version of Assassin’s Creed 2 own the Xbox 360 version of the original, while only seven percent who plan to buy the Xbox 360 version own the original on PS3.
There are quite a number of factors that attribute to this: the fact that PS3’s online service cost zero bucks, the recent PS3 price drop and the new SKU looking slim and svelte. I’m sure our forumites have better theories and explanations: join them here.
